Against the rest of the tour

HolesAverage yardsAverage to parBirdie or betterTour average to parTour birdie or better
Par 3s4208+0.1610.6%+0.0613.3%
Par 4s11402+0.0118.6%+0.0416.9%
Par 5s3526-0.3645.0%-0.3744.9%

The par 3s are where Port Royal Golf Course differs most from a typical tour course: +0.16 a hole here against +0.06 across the tour, so each one plays about 0.09 of a stroke harder. Tour averages are every hole of the same par from 2020 on. How much of that is length alone is in PGA Tour scoring average by hole length.

What the wind does here

YearRoundAverage windRainField average to par
2025429 mph0.0 in+2.12
2025323 mph0.0 in-0.30
2025121 mph0.1 in+0.96
2025220 mph0.0 in-1.13
2024317 mph2.0 in-2.59
2024115 mph0.0 in-0.17
202428 mph0.1 in-2.08
202448 mph0.0 in+0.76

In the four windiest rounds (20 to 29 mph) the field averaged +0.41 to par; in the four calmest (8 to 17 mph), -1.02. That is about 1.4 strokes a round. All four windy rounds came in 2025, though, so some of that gap is the year (course setup, the field) and not only the wind. The windiest round of all, 29 mph in round 4 of 2025, was also the hardest, at +2.12. The lowest-scoring round, -2.59, came with 2.0 inches of rain, which softens the greens so approaches stop. Rounds 3 and 4 are played by the players who made the cut.

Who in this week's field plays it best

85 of the 120 players in this week's field have played Port Royal Golf Course before. These have gained the most on the field per round here, from at least two starts:

PlayerStartsRoundsStrokes gained per round
Adam Schenk28+2.37
Harry Higgs28+2.27
Aaron Wise28+2.26
Vince Whaley414+2.06
Denny McCarthy312+1.82

Strokes gained is a player's score against the field's average that round, so a windy day and a calm one count the same.
